Field of View Explained

product-tour_FAQ_field-of-view_fixed
Fixed Cameras

Field of View: 86° – 115°

Wide, continuous coverage

  • Wide-angle, always-on coverage → shows the same view 24/7
  • Best for time-lapse, progress photos, and compliance documentation
  • Often lower cost because there are no robotic components
product-tour_FAQ_field-of-view_ptz
PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom)

Field of View: 58° – 71°

Flexible coverage + sharp
optical zoom

  • Wider range, but one area at a time → pan, tilt, and zoom across the site, but only shows what it’s pointed at now
  • Best for security monitoring, live remote check-ins, and incident investigation
  • In some cases, one PTZ camera can provide enough coverage to replace multiple fixed-position cameras

Zoom Explained

product-tour_FAQ_zoom_digital
Digital Zoom

Available on both PTZ and fixed cameras

  • Crops and enlarges the existing image
  • Can make images look pixelated or blurry at higher zoom levels
  • Useful for quick checks but limited for compliance or evidence needs
product-tour_FAQ_zoom_optical
Optical Zoom

Unique to PTZ cameras since they have robotic zoom functionality

  • Uses the camera’s robotic lens to magnify the scene in detail
  • Provides clear, sharp images even at long distances
  • Ideal for capturing faces, license plates, or activity across large jobsites

Resolution Explained

2K

~4 MP

  • Entry-level resolution at the lowest price point
  • Good for general visibility and smaller projects
  • Provides usable images for marketing
4K

~8 MP

  • The industry sweet spot for clarity and detail
  • Increased clarity for faces, plates, and compliance documentation
  • A resolution that both your operations and marketing teams will value
8K

~33 MP

  • Ultra-high clarity with exceptional detail
  • Ideal for large, complex, or high-profile projects where every detail matters
  • Produces stunning imagery your marketing team will absolutely love

Most jobsites are fully covered with 2K or 4K. 8K is valuable when extreme detail is required for safety, legal, or marketing needs.

(Infrared) IR Night Vision Explained

product-tour_ir-night-vision_infrared@2x
IR (Infrared)

Allows cameras to capture clear footage in complete darkness; essential for security and monitoring after hours

product-tour_ir-night-vision_non-infrared@2x
Non-IR

Relies on ambient light — works fine for daylight monitoring or well-lit sites, but not ideal for unlit perimeters

If jobsite security is a concern, IR is a must.

Data Caps

The only cameras with a data cap are those on the Essentials subscription tier. A camera on an Essentials subscription receives 10 Gigabite (GB) of high-speed data per month. For most of our customers, this is plenty of data.

10GB of data is enough for about 20 hours of live viewing and/or security footage downloads, plus running up to three all-day time-lapses capturing images every 15 minutes.

What takes up the most data?
  • Live View streaming
  • Downloading the Security Recordings to your account

Note: For Essentials cameras, it’s a good idea to limit camera access to only those who truly need it, so you don’t have anyone unnecessarily using up data.

What happens if my 10GB runs out?

You can still access your camera and account, and your time-lapses will continue uninterrupted. You may receive a lower-quality Live View stream, and you won’t be able to download additional security recordings until your monthly reset.

Solar Size

Solar panels are an excellent way to power your jobsite from any location. Solar batteries last for
five or more days, working long after any overcast days. Here’s a chart of what you get:

product-tour_FAQ_solar-size@2x

Leased systems may vary. Ask your sales representative for more information.

Solar Backup Battery

Our solar panels come with a set of backup batteries. These charge when receiving proper sunlight and power your camera when the solar panels do not receive enough sunlight.

With a full charge, the batteries will power your camera for five days minimum. In most cases, they will last closer to seven days.

Solar Performance

Optimize your solar cameras by ensuring:

1. Panels are Clear

Ensure nothing is blocking the solar panel from the sun: Trees, buildings, and shadows they cast
throughout the day.

2. Battery Position

Set the battery enclosure a maximum of 10 feet off the ground for easy access. You can keep it locked
for extra security.

3. Winter Preparation Plans

Northern locations have longer overcast days. Consider another solar panel for additional
charging power, a charged backup battery, or plug the TrueLook camera into a generator with 110V power input.

When to Choose Leasing vs. Purchasing Your Hardware

product-tour_FAQ_buying-options_lease@2x
Lease
  • Lower upfront costs — ideal if you want to conserve capital or manage cash flow.
  • No storage headaches — return the gear when the project’s done.
  • Maintenance and support are included — no surprise service costs.
  • Always have access to the latest models — upgrade easily.

Purchase
  • Best for long-term use — you prefer a one-time capital expense and ownership.
  • You plan to reuse or rent the equipment across multiple projects.
  • You want full control and responsibility for the hardware.

When to Choose Professional Installation vs. DIY

product-tour_FAQ_installation_professional@2x
Professional Install
  • You want a completely hands-off experience — let the experts handle everything.
  • You have solar-powered units and need optimal panel positioning for peak performance.
  • Your mounting location is complex (e.g., poles, high elevations, or unusual surfaces).
product-tour_FAQ_installation_DIY@2x
DIY Setup
  • You’re comfortable following instructions and enjoy tackling setup yourself.
  • Your setup is straightforward and doesn’t require special configurations.
  • Your mounting needs are basic and compatible with standard brackets and tools.
