our story

From robotics to the jobsite

TrueLook started in 1995 as Perceptual Robotics, a Chicago company building some of the first remote pan-tilt-zoom cameras. We moved to Winston-Salem, found our purpose in construction, and kept building.

Today, our cameras, software, security, and TrueAI help project teams see what’s happening on every site. The technology has changed a lot since 1995. The idea behind it hasn’t: when construction teams can see more, they can know more.

1995

Before TrueLook, there was Perceptual Robotics. Founded in Chicago, Perceptual Robotics pioneered remote visual technology, including early pan-tilt-zoom camera systems that laid the groundwork for what would become TrueLook.
2003

Winston-Salem becomes home. Perceptual Robotics relocates from Chicago to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the city TrueLook still calls home.
2005

TrueLook takes shape. Building on a decade of camera and remote-viewing innovation, TrueLook begins taking shape as the technology and platform that will define the company’s future.
2010

Construction comes into focus. As more construction companies turn to TrueLook for remote jobsite visibility, the industry becomes a growing focus, and begins shaping what TrueLook will become.
2021

The TrueLook platform evolves. TrueLook launches its next-generation platform, creating a faster, more scalable foundation for managing cameras, projects, and visual jobsite information.
2024

TrueShield is launched. TrueLook launches TrueShield, bringing cameras, active deterrence, professional monitoring, and jobsite security together in a solution designed around the needs of construction.
2025

TrueAI is launched. TrueLook introduces TrueAI, using artificial intelligence to turn jobsite imagery into useful insights and help teams understand more of what’s happening across their projects.
